Day 29: Beat the Heat

The weather here has been so sporadic.  Day 29 was super duper hot, and definitely called for shorts.
I have difficulty accessorizing during really hot weather because my skin is really sensitive to metal and breaks out into attractive red hives.  This necklace has a leather strap, which makes it ideal for a person like me.  This is why I also gravitate towards scarves, especially silky ones, when I feel I want to shake up an outfit.  Do you have anything about you that hinders your fashion desires?

Days 27-28: Grasping at Straws

I remember this happened the last time I did 30 for 30.  I spend the last 5 or so days scraping for outfit ideas.  Of course, that's where the real creativity comes in (but.it's.so.HARD!).  Like, for example, Kendi turning a scarf into a cardigan in this post.  It took everything I had not to just straight up copy.  Well, actually, I do intend on straight up copying her outfit.  But not now.  It's too soon -- I'll just wait the appropriate amount of time for something to go out of fashion and back in fashion.  That's about 30 days right?

Anyway, I decided to go for a headband with this outfit.  Kinda preppy, but with a splash of polka dotted yellow fun.  So, here's me playing some awkward air guitar and proving to my mom that I do not, in fact, ever brush my hair.

And on day 28, a new way of wearing a scarf!  It's basically the same knot as when you 1) Fold the scarf in half and 2) pull the ends through the loop created.  Except this time, I only pull one end through the loop and then just do a loose tie with the two ends.  When I wear a scarf like this, it feels like I'm wearing a cravat.  Is that a thing?  The ones that our founding fathers wore that made their necks look poofy?

A few more fun things.  I'm totally going to the eye doctor today (whoo!) and I have a veryextraspecialpost coming up about when I met What I Wore's Jessica Quirk (squee!).  It was super exciting and I had to trek up to San Francisco yesterday to do it, but it was totally worth it.
Stay tuned!  Thanks for stopping by!

Day 26: BIllowy Sleeves

I admit it -- this picture is taken inside only because I'm suffering from blogger exposure syndrome.  Namely, ohmygodmyneighborsareoutsideandthinkI'macrazypersonfortakingpicturesoutsidemyapartmenteveryday embarassment.  I've gotten photo session crashed by their high school age kids a couple times and I'm positive they think I'm a nutter.  Yes, a nutter -- I'm watching Leap Year and have taken on some Irish sayings.

This dress is highly versatile and well worth my money.  I can pretend it's a skirt and top by adding a belt or layer various shirts, sweaters and cardigans over and under it.  Mustard is one of my non-neutral "neutrals", so I can wear it with anything.  Do you have any  of those?  Some of my others are military green and cobalt blue.

Okay, so we're counting down the days -- 4 more left!  Thanks for sticking with me and stopping by!

Day 25: Piece Repeat

So I'm totally wearing my chambray tunic again.  The day after I wore it previously.  Typically this is a really big no-no for me -- Wear a piece 2 days in a row is like, totally tacky! But it is 30 for 30, and anything goes right?  Besides, I did a giant couple loads of laundry yesterday, including the tunic, which makes it totally ok.  Because it's clean.  Stop judging me.

The BF and I sucked it up and went to go see Harry Potter today at 5:30pm.  We figured it was the best plan to avoid an overly packed movie theater and, would you believe it, we were right!  It was a reasonably quiet audience, which was much appreciated.  And I absolutely loved it! That's all I will say for now, but I highly recommend seeing the movie if you've been following the movies, books or both.  It was a nice little date-y afternoon -- so great that the two of us enjoy each other's time so much 7 years into a relationship.  Sometimes I just don't appreciate it as much as I should -- we're so blessed!

Hope you all made it through your Monday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Day 24: Multitasker

This tunic is one of the workhorses of my wardrobe.  It's great alone, layered on top of dresses, skirts and tops, and it can be tucked into a skirt.  Not to mention, chambray is very of-the-moment and it goes with EVERYTHING.  I wish I could clone it and save the clone for later years when I've completely destroyed it.

I wore this headband today with my pony tail -- not to keep hair out of myself per say, but I'm seriously digging the recent stylings I've seen on blogs and magazines with sorta poofy pony tail hair pushed down with a headband.  So I teased the heck out of my hair and copied.  Only problem is, my ponytail looks seriously damaged. Oh, the things we do for fashion.

I watched the Womens World Cup today, and may I say -- it was absolutely intense.  I'm a recreational soccer player, and watching these incredibly fit women handle the ball just put me in awe the entire 3ish hours the game was on.  I'm incredibly sad that the United States lost it in penalty kicks, but at least Japan will be able to take this victory home in light of the recent destruction they've been dealing with for the last few months.

Day 23: Yes...That One

This set of photos employs one of my best contemplative faces.   It's the face that I put on when I want to look like I'm intelligent, articulate and choose my words carefully.  The face that gives you confidence that I can correctly make a choice for you.  In reality, I'm just thinking about what I want to eat for dinner.  But that's okay.  Because on the outside I look like I'm intelligent and articulate.  Respect my opinion, because it's well thought out!

When taking photos, the placement of light is often unintuitive.  The best time in terms of light to take pictures is actually right after the sun comes up or right before the sun goes down.  Now that the sun sets later in the day,  it's often much brighter than when I initially started this blog when my BF helps me take pictures.  It's odd how much we have to adjust for over brightness when its sunniest outside.  Argh.  It's like I'm in Physics again.  Did anyone else get their mind blown when they learned that throwing a ball straight up in the air when sitting in a moving vehicle (i.e. a car, a boat, etc.) still comes straight back down in your hand?  It blew my mind!  Yeah, sorry -- sometimes I'm a nerd.

Anyway, that's a wrap today.  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

Day 22: Where Have All the Clothes Gone?

Today's post title reminds me of the tag line: "Where have all the cookies gone?"  Someone finish it, quick? Where HAVE they gone?

Since I came back from Chicago/Canada, I'm slowly unpacking my 30 for 30 items as I wear them.  This makes for a lot of convoluted outfits because I have to deal with the availability of what I can find in the morning instead of making conscious decisions.  But that's what life is like normally right?  So I don't have to feel bad?  We'll go with that.  This outfit is mostly neutral with a pop of green shoes.  I love these peeptoes, they're so fun!

I was on my last set of contacts before I went on vacation and I'm overdue for an eye doctor appointment.   Hence all the glasses posts.  Now I have to schedule an appointment and stuff.  /sigh.  Why is life so hard? (ha :P)

Day 21: Nerdily Presentable

Yesterday I had to go to an expo to present some of the tools that my team offers to the company I work for.  Chatting up and marketing to end users requires an upbeat and warm personality, but I also think that the way you dress as a huge impact on the impression you make on others.  Since the organization I work for is somewhere between business casual and casual, I wanted to look professional, but approachable.  So, I went with a nice silk tie neck blouse with dark bootcut jeans.  I decided to nix the accessories and go with a clean pony tail and glasses, and I really think I accomplished my goal.  More folks than I thought were interested in what I had to say, and it was overall a pleasant day.  Score one for fashion!

Day 20: Library Chic

I pretty much always associate hair up + glasses with a librarian.  Combine that with a cute silk dress and some sliver wedge sandals, and you get Library Chic.  The girl who studies and looks hot doing it!  Or...something.

I'm about THISCLOSE to rolling off a project that I've been working for about a year and a half that's caused me a ton of stress.  To be honest, I can't wait.  There are so many other things I want to do, and focusing on this blog again is one of them.   I already have a couple other new assignments, so I can taste the freedom.  But not after one final, nerve wracking review that I desperately hope that I pass tomorrow.  Wish me luck!

Thanks for stopping by!

Days 16-18: Hodge Podge

As you can probably tell by my more sporadic posting, it's been a crazy couple of weeks.  This is going to be another short one, but at least you can see the next 3 30 for 30 outfits.  One of the outfits actually doesn't include on of my 30 items though -- in a packing mishap, I left my lace eyelet shorts in Chicago.  Ack!  Day 17 was meant to include that pair, but since I didn't have them, I swapped them out for another.

I also took the first 2 in the sequence on the road, so you'll have to forgive my iPhone quality photos.

I'm so glad that the DSLR is back in play.  The last day's pictures were from a day in San Francisco the BF and I went to the Renegade Craft Fair among other places.  It was super fun and you'll see a post on them soon!

Why I Remix

As you probably know, I'm in the process working through a second round of Kendi Everyday's 30 for 30 Challenge.  And while it's always fun to jump on the blogger bandwagon, it's important for me to take a look at why I'm participating.  Even before I started this blog, I spent a lot of time on Polyvore, blogspot, tumblr and google just looking at the latest fashion trends.  While they were a great source of inspiration, they also encouraged me to shop when I already had something within the trend that worked in my closet, had no money or both.  Remixing is a great way to help curb that shopping twitch.  And there are so many more reasons!  So, in honor of my roommate, who loves them -- it's list time!

to look for: Style - Why Thessa Remixes
  1. Remixing helps me take a hard look at a portion of my closet and realize I don't always have to buy new things to have a slew of awesome outfits.
  2. I can flex my creative muscles, which is fun in its own right.
  3. It helps me remember that accessories are friends and not things that clutter my room, but tools to completely change my outfit. Jewelry, scarves, hats, belts -- all so versatile.
  4. All the money the shopping ban portion saves is great!
  5. Sometimes having less items to choose from, instead a whole closet, reduces the "I don't know what to wear" syndrome.  Remixing reminds me that purging is good.
  6. Developing my own style is important -- in fact, it's what this blog is all about!  Style is about having a core part of your wardrobe that really works.  The first time I did this challenge, it became really clear to me what I could really depend on, and sometimes the results surprised me.  For example, in the first remix, I really relied on a certain mustard yellow cardigan.  What a weird closet staple, right?  And yet, since that challenge ended, I have to stop myself from wearing it every other day!
Here's a recap of what I've remixed so far for round 2 of 30 for 30-- halfway there!
