[Fashion/Adventure] Engagement Shoot

So things have been pretty quiet over at the to look for: Style front.  I know, I know, I'm lame.  And honestly, I can't promise anything about regularity because of all the wedding planning ups and downs!  But I couldn't help but share some of the engagement photos.  Only because the pictures look goooooood.  At least in my opinion.  Thanks to Michael Ying for the photography session!

We did 3 outfits to represent the formal, less formal and casual aspects of our life.  It was really important to me to get a photo journalistic photographer, which means that we were captured in more or less everyday life instead of cheesy posed shots.  The locations were in the downtown San Jose area including the San Jose Tech Museum and one of our favorite bars, Original Gravity.  I think Michael did a fabulous job!

Where have you/would you wanted to take your engagement photos?  Share in the comments, I'd love to know!

January on Instagram

Yes, yes, I know it's already mid-February.  But whatever!  Here's what was on the tolookforstyle Instagram in January.

Yes, I got engaged over the holidays.  Yes, I'm super excited!  I guess there's wedding posts in this blog's future.

How was your January?  Cold?

Dreaming of Hawaii

Happy Weekend folks!  Today I embark on a trip to Hawaii to celebrate a friend's wedding.  With the weather in the Bay Area being fairly temperate, I'm not DYING for warmer weather, but it will be a great change of pace to hang out on the beach!

Since I've had vacation packing on the brain, I figured I'd share some of the outfits that I'm planning to wear this week:
Surfing

Surfing by thessachan featuring a top bikini

I'll be taking surfing lessons for the second time in 4 years or so.  The last time I did it, it was sooo fun, so I'm pretty excited.  I love the boy inspired beach look with just a bit of bikini top peeking out.  It's so masculine-feminine, beach style.

I'm planning on renting a scooter for a few days to wander the island by myself.  My BF isn't able to come due to work and financial commitments and I'm super bummed.  But doesn't a solo trip around a tropical island with my DSLR sound so adventure-y?

Wedding Outfit

Finally, what I'm planning to wear to the wedding!  The colors are hot pink and teal and I figured this color was close enough.  I'm one of the secondary sponsors, so I wanted to make sure I was in line with the theme.  I went with wedge heels because it's a island wedding, so you don't want stilettos digging into the sand!

What do you like to bring on vacation?  Share in the comments!  Thanks for stopping by!

Fascinators

Ever since the internationally covered wedding of Prince William and Princess Kate, I've been a little obsessed with fascinators.   I mean, what's not to like about little hats that add panache to an updo?  And when my friend got engaged last year, one of my other friends and I were determined to wear fascinators to her wedding!  And dagnabbit, wear one I will.

The wedding colors are teal and hot pink, so I decided it would be safe to go either way.  If it matches my dress, great! If not, there's nothing wrong with a little color pop.  I also didn't want to go too big -- for both affordability reasons and the fact that I didn't want to look like something was growing out of my head.  So I scoured Etsy, and here are some of the ones I found:

From the ForYouByMe Etsy Shop

From Buds and Blooms Etsy Shop

From dannani handmade adornments Etsy Shop

From fabfascinator Etsy Shop

 From LovMely Accessories Etsy Shop

There is also a lovely assortment of peacock feathers and other colors if you search or them, but these are the kinds I was looking for in particular.  The wedding is in Hawaii, so I thought feathers would be a great light and airy option for my tropical outfit.

Anybody have other recommendations?

Wedding Recap

As promised, here is your fluffy hot pink wedding recap!  One of my best and longest friends ever got married a few weeks ago, which is the reason I spent so much time in Chicago.   It was fantastic because it brought all my old friends spread across the country together.  Check it out:

Just before going to the church.  My friend had a GIANT wedding party -- 9 bridesmaids and groomsmen.  We needed a trolley for transport!  Can we say awesome?

Check out the AMAZING dress.  It was made in the Philippines and then crammed with more flowers on the skirt state side.  She was absolutely beautiful!

At the reception, the bride and groom did  cha cha.  They were so cute, and I love her alternate dress.

In case you couldn't tell, the wedding colors were hot pink and white.  It was such a fun wedding (and open bar, haha) and I'm so happy for the new couple.

That's all for now! Thanks for stopping by!
