There were a few elements that I wanted to try when I wore this outfit.  I wanted a leather or leather-like skirt for a long time, and finally scored this one on sale.  And, I wanted to wear an outfit with a light color palette on top and dark tights and shoes on the bottom.  I really like the result!  I wore this outfit while shopping at Anthropologie a couple weeks ago.  While I was checking out, the sales associated commented that I looked like an Anthropologie Girl that day.  Dang skippy.  I call that an outfit win!

My, my, how time has passed!  I told myself that I would take a brief hiatus to deal with wedding planning and re-branding my blog.  Brief turned into 4 months! And while I can't promise that I will be around as consistently as I want to, I will commit to blogging as often as I can. And I do feel the pull now and again to take outfit pictures and post them.

To show how long it's been, these pictures were taking in early spring, when we were still shopping wedding venues.  This was taken on the balcony of the Joliet Union Station venue.  It was hecka windy out there!  And while that didn't end up being our final choice due to distance and finding another place that eked them out of the running, it's a wonderful, unique choice.

And as many of you probably know, Google Reader is going away today.  So of course, I had to work in a post prior to it going done.  If you're still inclined to follow me, please feel free to do so on these other channels!

Travel Report: Harry Potter WB Studio Tour

As I alluded to in my last post, we went to Europe for 15 days in December.  It was so amazing -- I haven't been able to take an overseas trip in 5 years!  After moving to California, my traveling money was redirected to trips home to Chicago, so this is been a long time coming.

First stop!  The Harry Potter WB Studio Tour.  We are MAJOR fans of the Harry Potter series both in book and move form.  This was a fan dream come true.  Unfortunately, we only had an hour and half there due to delays in finding my bag after landing in London and our schedule train to Paris that night.  Super sad face.  But it was still absolutely worth it. Abso-freaking-lutely.

OOTD: Casual and Glam

This is an outfit that I wore to wine country that initially involved a much more "fancy" top.  But then I felt like it was too much for daytime non-partying, so I swapped in a super casual tee.  It's not new, but I the effect was too good in my mind.  Love love!

You guys, I have been having some major girl moments lately.  Recently every time I see or hear an advertisement for some heartfelt couple or family moment, I tear up.  Or something that involves teams. Seriously!  All those video chat commercials with a dad on a work trip talking to his kids.   Or the Windows 8 commercial focusing on the photo password feature where you see a bunch of family pictures.  Shoot, even the fricking Under Armour commercials where athletes train really hard and the tag line "Protect this House" closes it.  I mean, what gives?!  I'm not on my monthly cycle either!  Anyone else have this problem?

Don't forget to enter the Stella and Dot giveaway for a pretty pretty set of earrings!

OOTD: YOLO OMG BBQ

Today I got an e-mail that said "YOLO OMG WTF Sale", which was a great way to kick off the slew of e-mails that I know I'm going to get with Black Friday and Cyber Monday within arms reach.  Do you ever think we'll get to the point where all we do is talk to each other in acronyms?  Or text-talk?  Is text-talk even the right term for it?  Something like: OMG I <3 U 4EVA. W8 4 U @ BBQ.  YOLO.  Soon we're going to need a dictionary for all these things.  Oh wait, that already exists.

Really, at this point, who needs grammar?  (I'm just kidding, I love grammar.  In fact, I think I'm going to ask grammar to marry me. )

This is a super cozy outfit that I wore on a chilly weekend I had a bunch of extra work to do.  I love how it's both pulled together and comfy as all get out.  Lia Molly makes some fantastic knit wear with a lot of focus on the little details.  If you're looking for a sweater or cardigan with a little personality, definitely check them out.

Fall is definitely my favorite season, so I'm glad the Bay Area is finally catching up with the rest of the country and giving me a chance to break out my sweaters!  How about you?  What do you love about fall?  Share in the comments!

This pretty little vest reminds of nature near a river.  I love its flowy-ness and decided that it should take center stage against a fairly neutral backdrop of supporting clothes.  Also, it sorta reminds of a cape, without fully committing to being a cape wearing adult that has no super powers or secret identity.  And what self respecting nerd doesn't like to wear a cape now and again?

OOTD: Tank Dress

This is the first time in a long time that I've been home alone in the evening.  I've had a ton of stuff going on the last few weeks, so slowing down for a few hours is actually bizarrely weird.  It's just me, a glass of wine, Netflix and fashion mags.

This outfit is the perfect (Bay Area) season transition outfit.  The loafers and tank dress screams summer (it's called the summertime tank dress for crying out loud!) and the scarf and blazer take it into fall.  And there's nothing like tying a scarf in a way that makes it LOOK like it's a shirt.  Just make sure to wear something under it.  Otherwise it's awkward when someone checks you out from the back.

OOTD: Devil's Canyon

I'm a major fan of all things alcoholic and really, the more hipster the better.  So when my friends told me that the Devil's Canyon Brewery in Belmont, CA only opens the last Friday of every month to party and sell beers on tap, I was totally there.  You mean I can sample craft brews in a limited window with a select few in the know?  Count me in! Yeesh, I drink the Bay Area Kool-Aid more and more every year.

Since I was all ready to get my drink on, I decided to go with a loose tunic over skinny jeans and boots.  The boots because we walked to and took the train and the loose tunic to cover my inevitable beer belly.  And the skinny jeans so that I didn't look completely bloated everywhere ;).

And a few shots en route and at the brewery itself:

I ended up having the Pilot Brew, which as a very sweet, dark orange blossom flavored beer, a blonde beer and the Full Boar Scotch Ale.  In the end the Scotch was my favorite.  I would definitely be down for doing this again!

What kind of event would you go to in a heart beat?

OOTD: Wearing the Pants

I'm not sure when I started drifting away from wearing dress pants.  I think it might have been when I discovered Anthropologie and all the wonderful things dresses and skirt could do.  But when I want a good menswear inspired look, really the only way to go with bottoms are pants.  For extra flair, I even decided to forgo the normal bow on my top and tie it in a more dude kind of way.  Well, as dude-like as I could manage with a floral shirt.  I've recently picked up a boyfriend watch so that I could stop banging my BFs on walls and scratching it up and whatnot, so maybe that's why I keep going for more streamlined than ruffled outfits as of late.

I totally thought the red shoes would be too Christmassy, but I guess separating the green and the red helped!   Have a good one!  Thanks for stopping by!
