Every fall for as long as I can remember, tartan has been in fashion.  Normally, I associate tartan with preppy school girls gone bad -- black leather, safety pins, plaid leading to the punk look. This?  This is NOT that sort of vibe. I think I'm going for a sort of weird, lazy, chick lumberjack sort of deal.  But you know what?  It was comfortable, had fun patchwork and plaid elements and some graphic art on the tank.  Plenty of interest for a weekend outfit!

SF Fashion Week 2013 Recap: Emerging Designers Showcase

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a few days of San Francisco Fashion Week.  It was an awesome week of fashion, technology and fun!  The Bay Area is such a hot bed of tech, that it's only natural that this would be where fashion and tech meet.  It's such an exciting and emerging area.

Speaking of emerging, I went to the Emerging Designer's showcase and was blown away by all the fashion.  It was held in the amazing Folsom Street Foundry, a beautiful venue that looks like a warehouse.  The vibe was great -- as were the drinks and the runway show.  And lucky for you, I got some video!

Let's look at the women's fashion first:


I love these colors so much!  Anubha Srivastav had a color-filled take on tailored clothing and neat whimsical details.  I particularly fell in love with all the buttons on the jackets!  I could easily see taking many of the pieces and making them pop by pairing them with a neutral outfit.  They would totally work in the office! Sorry for missing all the shoes in this line-up, it was the first one and I was still getting my bearings :).


How perfect now that I have weddings on the brain!  Trixie Zarate brought some fantastic evening wear to the table with some serious sleek and elegant silhouettes with interesting details and touches.  That yellow dress was Oscar-worthy in my mind!


Speaking of color-pop -- Leela Dhanya Gutta really brings eye-catching style to the night scene.  Neon is totally of the moment and the she really picked some trendy styles and shapes.  A little something for everyone -- a little peplum, a little form fitting and some flowly pieces -- yet they were all a very cohesive collection.  Those sunglasses were a great touch!  I was really impressed and wouldn't be opposed to sneaking some of her clothing into my closet for fancy occasions.  *hinthint winkwink*


Last but certainly not least, Sam Shan brought some intense drama to the runway.  The brocade, dark colors and sleek silhouettes are a nod to goth and punk.  And the gloves!  The quilting! The strategic placement of gold and white!  It was amazing.

The blazing, humid Chicago heat is a far cry from the temperate climate of the Pacific Northwest.  The heat drive me to light silk dresses paired with cute flats made for walking.  And what better dress to take to an urban jungle than one printed with zebras, tigers and giraffes? (Oh my!)   

On the plus side? Ice cold beer tastes all the sweeter in that kind of weather.  And you can bet that I was taking advantage of that.

Polkapendence Day

Independence Day is a fantastic day to remember our freedoms and what a blessing it is to have them.  It's also a great day to kick back, have a barbeque and enjoy the dead of summer!  And to beat the head, there's nothing like an easy shorts and tank combination.  Thinking I'm going to wear something like this tomorrow.

I love a good polka dot.  (Could you tell?)  Throw in some neutral cognac accessories, a sun hat, sunglasses and a dash of red lipstick and you're set!  Time to eat some grilled food, watch some fireworks and hit the malls for limited hours!

My, my, how time has passed!  I told myself that I would take a brief hiatus to deal with wedding planning and re-branding my blog.  Brief turned into 4 months! And while I can't promise that I will be around as consistently as I want to, I will commit to blogging as often as I can. And I do feel the pull now and again to take outfit pictures and post them.

To show how long it's been, these pictures were taking in early spring, when we were still shopping wedding venues.  This was taken on the balcony of the Joliet Union Station venue.  It was hecka windy out there!  And while that didn't end up being our final choice due to distance and finding another place that eked them out of the running, it's a wonderful, unique choice.

OOTD: You Spin Me Round

These pictures were taken the day before Valentine's Day outside of a gas station.  Yes, a gas station.  Because there's nothing like making your fiancee multi-task pumping gas in the car and taking outfit photos.  Takes grunge fashion to the next level.  Well, not really.  But a girl can pretend right?

I know I've waxed poetic (well not poetic really, but whatever) about how weird it is to take outfit pictures in public sometimes.  I have to resist the urge to pick up my camera and run flailing my camera and tripod behind me if someone even opens a door in line of sight of me self photo taking.  I don't know what it was about that day, but I had no problem spinning in circles near the gas pump as he took pictures of me.  Maybe it was because he was making me giggle the whole time and I didn't realize other people thought I was being weird.  Or maybe spinning makes me so dizzy I can't see the stares.  Who knows? But you know what? I'll go with it.

Where has the year gone?  Are we seriously already more than halfway through February?  That's way too crazy.  This is about as close as I've gotten to getting on board the patterned jeans trend.  These are super comfy and still seem like something I can dress up or dress down.  I really want a pair of polka dotted ones, but I'm holding back because really, I don't need another pair of jeans.
