OOTD: I Saw the Potential, but Have Not the Skill

One of the things I was always really envious about when reading others' blogs is the high level of DIY skillz many other ladies have.  Everything from dyeing clothes and shoes, making their own clothes and hacking up some Ikea furniture to bend its will.  So, when I saw this dress at my local Savers, all I could do is think about all the potential.  I mean, red, florals AND shirt dresses are ALL on trend right now AND it fits amazingly! How often do you find a size 4P at a thrift store?  Now, if only I could hem it to be above the knee...

And then, I had it.  It was only $7, and how expensive could taking it to a tailor for hemming be?  It's just a straight shot across, right?

Here's the picture of the original dress:

Aaaand viola!  $12 later, I have the best mini shirt dress evar!  Now, I know it's not as bada$$ as sewing it myself, but you know what?  I'm going to take the credit for seeing the potential and making a design decision!

So, in the best case I've inspired you to go off and be creative in the best way you know how, and in the worst, I've convinced you that I'm a sham.  Well, to each their own!

OOTD: Pure Achiness

So I started a new workout regimen that includes the Barre method -- effectively incorporating ballet moves into concentrated strength training.  It reminds me a lot of yoga in its methodical movement and breathing, but this workout really concentrates on micro-movement of muscles.  Just imagine your worst moment pulsing squats -- and multiply it by 10.

Now, I'm someone that loves high impact sports, so slowing it down is a major feat for me.   But really, you feel the impact of this work out right. away. And unlike other types of strength training, it doesn't debilitate you the next day.  You just feel it when you make a small movement here or there, so it's a lot better going back day to day.

But, I'm sure you didn't come here to listen to me rattle on about some workout routine -- on to the outfit!

OOTD: Leopard Crosswalk

Hi! Dropping in for a short visit.  This weekend is the BF and my anniversary weekend, and we're up in Sonoma having a wino-type good time!  This outfit, which I wore a few weeks ago, was iffy for me with similarly busy patterns on the top and bottom.  Well, it was until I threw the cardigan over it -- then it just worked!

I'm actually sitting here outside of a Sonoma B&B called Hope-Merrill in my own private garden patio. How fun is that?  The BF and I are experimenting with a mobile app called HotelTonight, where you basically can reserve rooms at the very last minute for discount prices.  We ended up getting the biggest room in the joint and it's just too cool.

Here are some pics of the patio:

Did I mention we were in the Sterling Suite?  Oh yes, we have our own patio gate!

The last 2 months have just been so all over the place for me, but if you want more up to date pictures, you can always follow me on Twitter (@tolookforstyle), Instagram (@tolookforstyle) or Facebook

OOTD: Raining Pouring

It's been quite the hectic weekend!  Here's an old outfit for you from a month or so ago that features one of my favorite Anthropologie pieces, the Raining Pouring blouse.  It was a miracle I got it in the first place!  I missed out on it the first time and somehow, magically, it showed up, IN MY SIZE, on pop-back a few weeks ago.  So freaking exciting and full of whimsy.

In less prissy, more hard core athlete form, I ran a mud run yesterday morning.  So take a look at these OOTDs one more time, and get a load of this:

Mudrun

I totally let the mud dry and drove 1.5 hours afterwards to play in my soccer game.  I was picking mud off all the way up!  Needless to say, once I actually did get home and was showered and fed, I passed out right away.

Still, it was awesome!  I can't recommend mud runs enough.  This was my second and it's a blast every time.  This one was a 5K with 11 obstacles that culminated in an army crawl through a mud pit.  Go find one in your area!

Hope you had just as great of a weekend.  Thanks for stopping by!

OOTD: Glamping

Ever hear of glamping?  It's glam camping.  I think the idea is that you're out in the wilderness with a fabulous tent/hut looking thing.  Never been.  Not sure I ever will.  BUT! I'm pretty sure this is the kind of thing that you'd wear.  I mean, a glitter sweatshirt, stretchy cotton skinnies and high heels?  Comfort with glamour!

When I picked this sweatshirt up at my local Savers, it was like my hand had a mind of it's own.  It put it in my cart before I knew what was happening!  I'm glad it did, because it's super fun -- even if it did smell like bubblegum and I had to wash it 3 times to get it out.

I also am loving these Mona pumps.  It's so great that J Crew offers such fun colors and that I can stalk eBay for better deals on out of season colorways.

Win all around!  Thanks for stopping by!
