OOTD: Retro

I can remember a time back in 2008 where I was in a DSW with my roommate, staring at a pair of heeled, open toed oxfords.

Me: I just don't get these, they're ugly.  And don't your toes get cold?

Roommate: Me neither, I don't get this trend.

Flash forward to 2011.  And what am I wearing?  Oh, heeled open toed oxfords.  Why oh why fashion, do you always make a hypocrite out of me?  I suppose that's the lesson here -- fashion is a fickle, fickle friend, so you just got to wear what feels good.  And today?  This outfit makes me feel real dang good.

Whenever I wear tie neck blouses I feel like I'm thrown back to some earlier time.  What time frame is it? The 70s probably?  Between this blouse and the fact that my skirt is swapped out of my roommate's closet and my belt was given to me by my mom, pretty much everything but my shoes has a retro vibe to it. Not to mention, I love orange! And pattern matching!  I don't know if you can tell, but the skirt has tiny chevrons on it.  This is definitely going to be on the repeat outfit list.

OOTD: Mix it Up

Here's another piece I haven't pulled out since my 30 for 30 challenge -- the Coin Purse Cardigan.  It's so incredibly unique with its coin purse pockets.  They even have the kiss lock closures, which are so great! I do worry about the heaviness of the pockets pulling down the knit while it's hanging in the closet though.

Purple and orange together is one of my favorite color combinations.  I did wear this scarf yesterday though, so one of my coworkers said that I had to mix up my wardrobe a bit.  He was definitely joking, because I wear such distinctly different outfits week to week, but it was still funny.

This is the second time I've worn my AG Angelinas and I absolutely love them.  They're so soft and there's some definite give so it's almost like wearing sweat pants.  I only wish the inseam were a touch shorter.  I have to wear 4 inch heels so that the pant legs are just barely touching the ground!  What do you other petite ladies do?  Do you really hem all your jeans?  (I'm so lazy!)

I'm also really into this new Tarte LipSurgence matte lip tint in fiery.  I'm trying to warm myself up to a red lip -- most of the time I go for pink or peach -- and I have to say that I really like it.  This formula is contradictory to me because it goes on without gloss, yet it still keeps my lips soft.  It's so weird, but I have to say, I really like it!   Any new make up that you're trying?  Tell me in the comments!

OOTD: Borrowed Light

I'm pretty sure the kids that live next door think I'm some sort of crazy psychopath.  I used to take for granted the pretty outfit pictures that the bloggers I followed took.  It was great style inspiration and helped me figure out what may or may not work for my personal taste.  What I never really thought about is what it took to get those pictures.  I take pictures outside my apartment everyday after I get home from work to catch the light, which is right around the time my neighbor's kids get home from school.  As soon as I hear the chatting and footsteps, I have to fight not to scramble into my apartment and hide.  Do any of you other bloggers out there have this problem?

I ended up getting home late last night after a work networking event, so apologies for the dark pictures.  I'm so glad I got a second chance at the Liamolly cardigan I'm wearing at the Swirl flash sample sale site.  It's so cute and unique!  Need an invite?  Click here.  I have a love/hate relationship with these sites because they give you an opportunity for amazing deals on high quality items -- but you have to decide so quickly!  It makes me feel all rushed and stuff.

Well, happy hump day!  Everyone have a good rest of the week!

OOTD: Prepped Up

Experimenting with layering is a fun thing.   I thought I'd experiment with a more preppy style with this look by wearing a collared white button down under the Spliced Ikat shift.  My primary worry was that the button down would add unnecessary bulk, but with a belt, it worked out much better than I expected.  It was actually really cold yesterday, so I kind of wished I bundled up a little more, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

I ended up watching Thor yesterday, mostly because I had a Groupon for 2 movie tickets that expires in a couple weeks and it was the movie with the most promise in the time frame I had left available.  I wasn't sure what to expect -- I like a good Marvel movie as much as the next person, but I didn't know much about Thor other than playing his character occasionally on Marvel Ultimate Alliance.  While I heard there were folks unhappy with the lack of storyline, I actually liked it.  I've always had a soft spot for mythology, and while my tendencies for reading myths were more of the the Greek and Roman variety as opposed to those of Norse gods, I appreciated the way the story was told.  Thus, the to look for: Style household believes it's worth a watch -- maybe not in the theatre, but at least on a high quality TV.
What was the last movie you watched in the theatre?  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: On The Run

Yesterday was a hodge podge of things, which required a comfy, versatile outfit.  I decided to try the rolled up boyfriend jeans and flats look despite my petite height.  For the most part I like it, but from some angles I feel like I look a little stumpy. So, I threw in some red lip stain to snazz the outfit up a bit.  I actually used to have trouble with bold lipsticks like this, but I'm trying to warm myself up to them over the weekends.  I'm not sure what a good rule of thumb is -- does it go with everything? Bolder outfits? Neutral outfits?  What do you think?

I finally caught up on some grocery shopping and the BF and I are trying a week of dinners out of this month's Women's Health Magazine that has a rotisserie chicken as a base.  Tonight's dish is panazella (sp?) salad.  Yum! Another bonus -- the Bulls annihilated the Heat last night.  I'll bet Miami's taking a second, more close look at their opponent.  Take that! Ha!

OOTD: Oh Warmth, Where Art Thou?

And here I am contemplating the whereabouts of sun and warmth in the Bay Area.  I mean seriously, I'm back in tights and Ugg boots?  Really? The weekend has been pretty cloudy and rainy, which is a strange departure from the May of the past 3 years.  I know I sound whiny and California-y, especially as a Midwest transplant, but I had to take the 2 minutes to have little vent.

Anyway -- yesterday was pretty fun.  The BF had a bachelor party to go to in San Francisco Fri-Sat, so I volunteered to pick him up in the evening.  Sure, it sounded like I was being an appeasing girlfriend, but in reality, I just wanted to do some rare shopping in the city.  But you know what? I'm going to take my win-win situation!

I really went to the city to make stops at Zara and Mango -- stores I typically can't get to otherwise, but nothing was really talking to me at those stores.  So disappointed.  I did pick up a few things at Anthro in anticipation of the tag sale this Tuesday in hopes of getting a PA.  I'll share if I do end up getting one ;).  One thing I plan on keeping regardless of it going on sale or not:

The Spectator Espadrilles have been sold out online in my size for a couple weeks, so when I saw them at the SF store,  I just couldn't help my self.  I've been looking for some sky high open toed wedges, and the uniqueness of these just can't be beat.  Not to mention I was looking for these shoes on other sites on my iPhone -- a common habit I have when looking for the best price on shoes -- and I couldn't find them either by the Seychelles name (Siren) or the product number!  So home with me they came.

Are you all planning on picking anything up at the Anthro Tag sale this Tuesday?  The suspense is killing me!

I can't end this post without a shout out to the Chicago Bulls.  Much love, kick the Heat's butts back to Miami!
