Happy Post: Sun Dance

This post has nothing to do with the movie festival.  It has to do with the fact that I am, subconsciously I think, done with winter and cannot WAIT for summer.  Yes, summer, not spring.  I was actually going to wear flats and bare legs with the bold, summery looking outfit, and the sweater was honestly an after thought when I stepped out my door and realized that it was still cold.  Oops.  I don't know what I was thinking, it's not like we had a warm patch recently or anything.  It's weird because, if you know me, I don't love summer as much as a normal person.  I hate being hot, and humidity and I are bitter, bitter enemies.  But the grass is always greener on the other side, so today I say "Come on back sunshine and warmth!"  In any case, today's outfit was nothing a warm hoodie and some knee high boots couldn't fix.

Today is going to be a two post day because I couldn't get to posting yesterday.   Why?  Because I went to an amazingly awesome never ending happy hour.  We had some delicious red wine and mix drinks, then ramen and beer, and then just did some general wandering.  It was great night, but all I wanted to do when I got home was go to bed.  So, lucky you, two posts today!  (Just forget the fact that there were no posts yesterday.  Shhh).

Yes, I love the fact that BF's shoes joined me in some of the pictures.   They're so much better than a cat or a dog -- so cute!  The BF took the camera with him on a trip, so it's back to the point and shoot.  Oh grainy pictures, how I've missed you!

Today my roommate and I are going to the city to do some serious shopping in preparation for a friend's bachelorette party.  Yay!  I'm super excited about today and the end of the month when we go  to Vegas.  /cue me throwing a fist in the air.

Well, I'm sure I"ll have an update for you at the end of the day.  What are you excited about this month?

Happy Post: Turn Back Time

Do you ever wish that you could just turn the clock backwards and return to a time where things were simpler?  When you only needed money to buy some candy bars or your saved for 3 months to buy a video game.  When your parents took care of everything and all you had to do was go to school, do your homework and play outside with your friends until it got dark out?  I do.  And while it isn't really possible to actually go back in time, I can at least dress like I'm 7 years old, right?

 Outfit Description
Shirt: FCUK
Dress: Urban Outfitters
Boots: Chelsea

Figured I'd throw in some heeled boots to keep it fresh :).

Today's Mindset: Woke up with a mild hangover from drinking sangria with friends yesterday, which was fantastically awesome so I was in a pretty good mood.  Worked a bit, figured out some good stuff (yay!) then did some yoga and ate Chipotle.  Pretty positive in general.

Happy Clothing: As you can tell from the beginning of this post, I decided to dress like a little kid today.  That's pretty happy, right?  I didn't get any obvious happiness from my outfit today, but I like to think it helped.

One Happy Thing Today:  I did some yoga and I'm still coming down from the high of getting tapas and sangria with a couple friends yesterday.  All goodness.  I'm doing pretty good overall.

Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

Happy Post: Under the Moon & Stars

As you can probably tell, I made it home late from work today.  There was a tiny tiny tiny bit of light today and, only with the help of the artificial light around my door step, took some kinda dark pictures.  I actually like how they turned out!

Today's Mindset: Today started out pretty well.  I woke up in a neutral state of mind and had a fairly clear head driving to work today.  A lot of my meetings got moved, and while I was doing fairly stressful work, and still have to do more tonight, I feel pretty good.

Happy Clothing: Today is polka dot today and I came out with a new cardigan I bought on sale at Liamolly online.  It's so cool and unique with it's deep V and tieneck and strategically placed polka dots.  Who wouldn't love something with a dance in the name?  I mean seriously?  Plus, I went with a happy mustard color and I really love the way the outfit turned out.

One Happy Thing Today:  My friend and I went to get fish tacos today and just enjoy a 45 minute mindless, giggly break from work.

With all this and a workout last night, I'm feeling pretty good today!  I think the happy clothing and effort do do happy making things are working :D.

Happy Post: Oh Clothes, How I Missed You!

I forgot how much I love my entire wardrobe! As promised, the dress bought from Nordstrom Rack by my BF as a gift during 30 for 30 hasn't taken long to make it into an outfit post. And with my goal to dress happy this week, the nice bright blues make a fantastic pop of color with the other pops I've included in my outfit this week.

Today's Mindset: I woke up today with all sorts of plans to get things done at work.  While they didn't all happen, I did get some good work done.  I got a nap in to rejuvenate and now I'm ready to make dinner and work out -- things I haven't done in a while.  Hopefully all goes according to plan!

Happy Clothing: I went for crazy amounts of color 'pops' with today's outfit.  Lime green with the cardigan, teal patterns on my silk dress and fuchsia shoes.  Just looking at my shoes under my desk lifted my spirits.  And going to the bathroom and seeing my reflection was really great.  It reminded me of the nice thing my BF did for me by buying me a present when I was tempted to shop.  All in all, it seems like the happy experiment is working!

One Happy Thing Today:  A couple happy things today.  I took an extra 5-10 minutes to cuddle with my BF after getting ready this morning before work.  Also, he found out that this was possibly coming out in the near future:

Am I super ridiculous to want this car?  I mean, not now, but when I need a family car?  I love it!  (For the record, I already own a mini cooper.)

All in all, I'm feeling pretty good.  Tomorrow is polka dot day on Everybody, Everywear, so dots are in my near future!

Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

OOTD & A Challenge: What Makes YOU Happy?

As I was coming down from the high of completing Kendi Everyday's 30 for 30 Challenge, I came across this post on Little Girl Big Closet.  Tara talks about the effects of facial expressions on moods.  Little things like smiling when you're less than happy can actually make you feel happier -- fake it till you make it.  I do this a lot in every day life and not only with happiness.  When I'm feeling less than confident about a presentation, a project I'm leading, or a serious talk I have to have with a friend, I literally talk to myself.  Cliches like "You can do this", "Suck it up, you're better than this", and "You can step up to the challenge, you have before", actually have lasting effects on my confidence.  When clothing is a mechanism of personal expression, can dressing "happy" actually have similar effects?

Well, let's find out.  My life has been less than perfect lately, mostly due to a highly stressful project at work.  This stress leaks out into other aspects of my life, wreaking havoc on my social life, my temper, my workout schedule and sometimes my general ability to sleep (which really, truly, has never been a problem before).  Prior to starting this blog, my outfits would be a direct expression of how I felt.  If I felt good, I took the time to pick out an awesome outfit, feeling good about looking good.  Others, I would throw on the first thing I found (though recently, that thrown on outfit looks better now that I've been investing in my wardrobe, but still), and slink out of the house.  This blog has made me more accountable in creating "good" outfits, but there are still days when I want to say "Eff it". Those days become no picture days.  So this week, along with Tara, from Sunday-Friday, I will be dressing "happy", regardless of what my actual mood is.  I will also make an attempt to do something that directly makes me feel good, regardless of how small.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking.  Shouldn't I be doing this anyway?  Finding small things that will make me happy?  Well, sometimes we all forget the most obvious things.  I think this will be a small step in reminding myself to take good care of myself and my well being.

So, without further ado, today's outfit:

Cardigan: LOFT Stripe Cardigan (on sale here)
Top: Anthropologie Claudine Tee
Skirt: J Crew moss tweed mini (on sale here)
Belt: Forever 21
Shoes: Steve Madden P-Oxford

Not an angry face, just a cold face :P.

Today's mindset: Tired from yesterday's snowboarding trip (which was AWESOME), which left me less than energetic today. It's cloudy and gray outside and my soccer game was canceled for the 4th week in a row due to rain.  And, as it's Sunday, I spent a lot of time worrying about having to go to work tomorrow (which is silly, I know, but I do it anyway). The BF and I had sushi today, which was fun.  I was hoping today would be a more productive day than it was, but I did manage to get out of the house and I'm writing this post, so that's something, right? :D  Overall, I feel a little lethargic and grumpy.

"Happy" Clothing: The tweed skirt is something that I've been dying to wear, but couldn't because of 30 for 30.  I love how there are tons of colors embedded in the green tweed.  It's a little rainbow that can only be seen close up or if another aspect of the outfit pulls a color out.  Today I did that with a hot pink belt.  That's a happy color if I've ever seen one. Besides, the BF said I looked cute today, and that's a mood booster if I ever saw one.

One Happy Thing Today: I treated myself to a Voodoo coffee at Barefoot Coffee Roasters in Santa Clara.  I love coffee shops for their bustle of energy, and ambient noise, which gives me energy to get work done.  The smell of coffee lifts my spirits instantly.  In fact, I can feel it lifting as I write this post.
I hope you all will enjoy this little mini feature.  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!
