Nom Nom Nom

Not much time over here as its been a busy day, but I couldn't leave you without a glimpse of my Halloween costume!  It was certainly a fun 8-bit experience :P.

Halloween

Hope you all had a great time today -- whether with kids, friends or however you do this Halloween-y thing.

Thanks for stopping by!

OOTD: Boho Chic

Maxi dresses and are pretty easy to write off for short people.  There's many a time where trying one on made me feel frumpy and *GASP* even shorter than my 5 foot frame.  And forget about finding that perfect justabithigher than floor sweeping length that makes other girls look so elegant -- it's always 23452 inches too long!

Well, I must have tried on my millionth maxi (finding a good one is a one in a million chance -- haha, get it?) because this one is just great!  The colors go with a lot in my wardrobe and the shape is clingy enough to feel like I'm not drowning.  I still have to hike it up to my waist to fit lengthwise, but hey, you can't have everything.  Besides, its made of silk, so it doesn't add extra bulk.  In any case, it was perfect for a cool day in Napa.

This outfit is borderline hippie to boho.  I'm going to go with boho because I like the word better, but you can use whatever word you like.  Thanks for stopping by!

OOTD: PJs = Normal Clothing?

Apparently the new "weird" trend of the season (yes, I realize that I'm calling it weird now and that I may regret it in the event I eventually cave -- quiet you!)  is to wear grandpa pajamas as normal clothing.  I'm not talking about some college student stumbling around campus in sweats and a T-shirt.  Celeb sightings actually have dolled up chicks looking like they rolled out of bed, steamed their "nice" pajamas, did their makeup and hair and rolled out on the town.  Case in point:

I don't know if I can get behind a 2-piece pajama set as outerwear, but I sure as heck don't have any problems wearing a chemise as a dress!  Especially if it's one of the ones that Anthro tends to put out because well, lets face it, the materials are sturdy and the patterns are pretty!

I wore this out to San Francisco this past weekend.  It's a good thing I layered something light under all my "cold" gear because unlike the normal freezing fog that blankets the city, the day was ridiculously hot!  Thank goodness for nice, breathable fabrics.

These were all taken at the Palace of Fine Arts.  It's a very pretty place even if you don't go inside -- with a large pond, cool architecture and plenty of grass to sit on and people watch.  And so many people taking pictures!  We saw a model shoot, a wedding shoot and some random other shoots going on simultaneously.  It's a picturesque place indeed.  Hopefully I'll get to showing you some of the other shots we took on this day, but I at least wanted to get an outfit out.

I wanted something edgy for one of my photo shoots, so I decided to hit up my local railroad tracks.  There's something so contradictory about taking pictures in an industrial-like place and it was a lot of fun!  I just had to deal with the random stares.  I was also told later that if I decide to return to that locale I would need to beware of excrement.

Hmm.

....

....

Worth it!

Where in blazes has October gone? I keep getting the feeling that someone has pushed the fast forward button on my life -- it's all going by in a blur.  Things that, as a kid, seemed to take forever now just fly by.  Anybody else feel that way?

Thanks for stopping by!

OOTD: Big Red

So I finally got myself some red pants.  I've actually worn them once all fancy style -- cuffed and funky style, but I forgot to take pictures.  This time, I decided to go more classic with some black and red.  I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the heathered red vs fire red, but I think I'm quite in love with these now, thank you.

I wore this outfit on a Friday night to go single barrel.   It was so neat!  This bar is a speakeasy style place where they make all the drinks from scratch.  They actually try to keep the venue itself from being insane with people, so they only let a few folks in at a time.  The lights are dim, the curtains velvet and the bartenders wear snazzy, snappy clothes.  We had such a good time!  And the drinks?  Well, let's just say you get your money's worth.   Your first time there, they ask you questions about the types of drinks you like and make one to your taste.  It's quite the experience, and if you're ever in down town San Jose, I highly recommend it.

Hope you all had a good weekend!  Thanks for stopping by!

OOTD: Light Tricks

I think that the time of day pictures are taken is really interesting.  These pictures have some of the best light in them, yet I took them as it was getting dark.  I know it has to do with less indirect light, blah blah blah, but there's a reason the hour before the sun completely sets is called magic hour, I guess.

Today is florals and stripes.  No making fun of my half popped up collar in some of these pictures!

The roomies and I started watching The Walking Dead yesterday and it's so scary!  It's scary and scary good.  We could barely stop watching even when it was hard to stay awake.  I highly recommend it.  I think if I could pick a Halloween monster that intrigues me, zombies would definitely rank high if not at the top.  They make me shudder and empathize with their situation at the same time.  They died and then come back to torment their loved ones -- it's just scary and sad.
Happy weekend to all!  Thanks for stopping by!

OOTD: Tiny Owl Dots

If you've followed my blog for a while, its really no secret that I love patterns.  Florals, stripes, polka dots, color swirls -- you name it, I hearts it.  So when this yellow number went on sale, I just HAD to pick it up.  From afar, polka dots.  Close up?  Teeny, tiny owls!  It's so cute I can barely contain myself.

Can I just say that these boots are some of my favoritest?  I bought them in the winter of 2009 and have had to get them resoled once already.  Well, they're worn down again!  Gah!  It's not so much the cost that gets me.  It's really just that I'm more aware of them missing when they make it to the cobbler, which makes me want to wear them more than on a normal day!  Does that happen to any of you?  It's annoying!  Absence does make the heart grow fonder, I guess.

One more thing before I go!  Last time I wore this skirt, I totally wore it as a shirt!  Haha, check out this remix:

OOTD: Let the Layering Begin

In case you're wondering where I've been, I lost the PC to DSLR cord for my camera last week.  I turned my house upside down looking for it!  Of course, I found it after I stopped looking, under some magazines on my bedside table.  Sigh.

Cooler weather tends to take a little longer to hit the Bay Area, so I really didn't start layering clothing until last week.  I've been enormously jelly of the other bloggers with their cute long sleeves and coats!  This outfit is relatively straightforward, except that I shook it up with some green textured tights.  So adventurous, I know.

OOTD: Laces and Pins

The Bay Area never gets bone chilling-ly cold or anything, but Fall tends to bring in just the right kind of weather for layering.  I decided to take full advantage and wear tights and boots.

I'm also no longer a Modcloth virgin!  I took full advantage of the major sale they had last month and picked up a few things, including this skirt.  It's pretty rocker cute with an exposed zipper and a safety pin pattern.  I thought it would go well with my lace up boots and the rest was history.

Work's gotten kinda busy, so I'm going to keep this one a bit short and try to catch up on some sleep.  Thanks for stopping by!

Mobile Fitting Room Review: Drawing Dots Chemise

This fitting room review is for the Alihop brand Drawing Dots Chemise. It runs at $98 and I'm wearing an XS.

To be honest with you, the only reason I'm not balking at the price with a vengeance is because this is more of a dress than a chemise to me. But still -- holy expensive loungewear Anthro! It's a little ridiculous if you ask me. Unfortunately, this is a really cute piece-- I just love Kelly green and navy together, and the dots are just a great touch. It ties at the neck and would work well with or without a belt. And how cute would it be with tights and boots? Fabric is nice and comfy cotton (with silk possibly integrated) and a good length. Fits TTS. Definitely going to wait for sale and then well see.

It's definitely worth a try on though! I would totally go for it if it was more of a loungewear price.

Thanks for stopping by!

Mirror Shot: color pop

Since I didn't really post any outfits from the past week, I made sure to get my Thursday outfit in a picture. At this point, I was tired from daytime and evening activities, so I just threw on an easy jersey dress, a long cardigan and I was good to go.

What really made this work is the brightness and cheeriness of the color palette. It definitely brightened my mood!

I also got a pic with the conference mascot, the sp monkey! He tweeted his location twice a day and I finally found him the last day! I got a cute pic and a water bottle for my troubles :).

One Shot Review: Pointelle Variations Sweaterdress

So I've been spending all week at a conference with no camera but my phone :(. Sounds like a good opportunity to play with the blogger iPhone app!

This is a review for the Pointelle Variations Sweaterdress by Sparrow. It runs at $178 and I'm wearing a small.

Sweaterdresses look super cozy but are hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, this one is a miss. It was scratchy (can't STAND that) and the side view gives me a tummy pooch I don't appreciate. And geez, the price is too rich for me. On the positives, it's a good length and the weave pattern is pretty interesting. Give it a try on if youre interested. I sized up a touch, so consider that when picking a size. This will be a pass for me.

What do you think? Blogging on the
phone for the win or fail?

Ootd: Japanese schoolgirl

I'm currently on a weekend trip, so not much time near the computer. But! Gots the new iPhone app, so you still get outfitted goodness. This outfit reminds me of something an anime schoolgirl would wear.
