Fitting Room Reviews: Sincerely Paris Halter Dress, Fan-cut Iberis Dress, Cloudrose Dress, Cabana Chemise

 Sincerely Paris Halter Dress, Girls from Savoy, size 4, $148

This cute little dress is covered with postmark stamps that are presumably from Paris.  A departure from the full skirts of previous Girls from Savoy halter dresses, this is a nice springy number with a pencil skirt on the bottom.  I can definitely see how this is a well liked dress in the blogger community.  It's very breathable cotton AND machine washable!  My only con was that the zipper was a bit too exposed for my liking and I would have liked to see a shorter hem -- I like my skirts above the knee.  But taller ladies should appreciate this dress.  Sizing is typical for Girls from Savoy -- ladies in between sizes should size up.  A great staple dress for any wardrobe.  I think I'm going to pass on it due to the length and the fact that it's harder to wear a bra with a halter dress, but definitely give it a go if you're interested. 

Fan-cut Iberis Dress, Moulinette Seours, size 2, $168

This is one of those dresses that I really loved in person, but the pictures don't seem to do it justice.  It looks really washed out here, but it really is a nice, springy pattern.  It's silk and reminds me of classic Moulinette Seours -- streamlined, silky material and feminine.  The twist here is the neat cutouts in the front and the back.   It had a great feel and could stand alone or layered under a variety of different cardigans and blazers.  This is something I'd keep an eye on when it hit sale.  Fits TTS to a teeeeny bit big, so ladies in between sizes may want to try both. 

Cloudrose Dress, Deletta, size XS, $158

Sigh.  As the cost of natural fibers goes up, I've noticed that many higher end retailers are going with more synthetic material -- this number is made of rayon.  Interestingly enough, I couldn't tell until I looked at the tag!  The dress is very nicely cut and flattering on the body with a nicely cut neck and an above the knee length.  My only gripe is that the scrunching of the pattern at the waist bothers me. I'm not sure why, but it's stopping me from loving this one.  I'm usually an XS in Deletta, so I say go with whatever size you tend to get with this line. This one is a pass for me, but might be well worth it for those who love clouds!

Cabana Chemise, Saturday/Sunday, size XS, $68

Ah, what a nautical little pretty!  Blue and white stripe with a rope belt -- how could you NOT go sailing in it?  This is one of those great lounge pieces that I could see many ladies in the community wearing as a dress.  And it's made of cotton!  What a great value :).  A few gripes for the petite (or short waisted) -- i hate predefined belted waists because they tend to be below my natural waist.  A belt at the widest part of my body?  No thank you!  Taller ladies might see this one working fabulously for them.  Fits TTS.  This is a pass for me.

Fitting Room Reviews: Scattered Wing Romper, Blue Jay Chemise, Tochon Embossed Ponte Dress, Minutiae Dropwaist Dress

Well, I've been making the Anthro rounds, so here's a crop of fitting room reviews for you.  Enjoy! 

Scattered Wing Romper, Leifsdottir, size 2, $168

Omigosh, I LOVED this piece.  I typically don't like rompers because of the drop waist, but I think this one is helping me come around.  The pattern is fantastic with the birds flying across the purple backdrop.  When I saw it on the hanger, it reminded me a bit of a kimono, which appealed to the Japanophile in me.  It has some great details in the collar with the snap across the neck and the deep V.  It fits TTS.  The only downside for me is that this romper is made of polyester.  I mean, really?  This is a Leifsdottir piece Anthro!  Isn't that supposed to be the high end label?  I would have rather seen this in a silk.  Nonetheless, I'm totally stalking this for sale and if it happens to hit second cuts, then it is definitely mine! 

Blue Jay Chemise, Aiko, size XS, $158

I've been looking for a jersey striped dress, so when I saw this on my hanger while making my Anthro rounds, it made it into my try-on pile.  I was skeptical about the length and the extreme lightness of the material, particularly because it was located in the sleep and lounge section.  I was pleasantly surprised!  The asymmetrical hem is on trend and provides some great interest to the piece.  The fit is great -- form fitting without clinging and TTS.  I like the thicker straps and the comfy jersey.  On the downside, this is a tremendously expensive chemise.  $168?!  For something to sleep in!? And it's practically made of a wisp of a piece of cloth!  I'm hoping this goes on extreme sale because I want it in my closet, but I can't bring myself to spend almost two hundred on it. 

Torchon Embossed Ponte Dress, Deletta, size XS, $128

This was such a cute staple dress.  We've seen this in several incarnations in the last year or so, and it's no surprise that it's such a big hit.  It has a great fitted bodice and a fantastic flare to the skirt.  I love the texture because it adds interest to the piece.  You could layer up the wazoo with this dress!  Similar to other Deletta fit, I think it fits TTS. 

Minutiae Dropwaist Dress, Meadow Rue, size 2, on sale $69.95

I try this dress on and it goes on sale the next week! As I mentioned before, I'm wary of a dropwaist, but this one was a surprise as well!  I think it's because the skirt is pretty short, which provides the illusion of long legs.  The orange polka dots on the gray backdrop are super fun.  I think this fits TTS as well.  The only thing (again!) is that it's made of polyester.  I do not go to a high end store to get non-natural fabrics Anthro.  That's what Forever 21 is for.  If you want to go for it, it does have some great detailing and is a fun little dress.

Fitting Room Reviews: Anthropologie

Oh man, it's been a really long time since I did some fitting room reviews, huh?  Well, I managed to slip into Anthropologie before meeting some friends at Maggiano's in Santana Row, so here's a freshly tried on crop for you!

Pieced Column Dress, Bailey 44, sz XS, $178

This is one of those dresses that just looks like its going to be a disaster on the rack.  But so many other bloggers in the community had such good luck with it, I just had to try it on!  And boy, was I glad I did.  This dress is made of super comfy, Bailey 44-typical jersey.  The swathes of fabric are highly flattering and the length hits the knee perfectly, which is great compared to the longer length sisters of this dress.  This dress is pullover styling  and I love the 3/4 sleeve length.  This fits TTS and would be a great winter/fall dress.  Highly recommend!  I'll have to stalk on 2nd cuts because of my new money rules, sad face.

Connect Forty Dress, Bailey 44, sz XS, $188

This dress is by the same label as the one before, Bailey 44.   Even though it has a similar silhouette as the Layered Column Dress, I'm not sure I like it as much.  I do love the contrasting colors of the polka dots in the bodice and the skirt.  Still, without the layering of fabrics, I feel like it doesn't leave enough to the imagination. And while other, taller ladies are rejoicing at the longer hem lengths, I, of the tribe of short, feel like the length shortens me.  Ladies in between sizes may want to size up if they're worried about the tightness. 

  

Bike Lane Dress, Pilcro, sz 4, $158

I can see why the blogger community is having a field day with this dress!  This is a nice, springier version of the Two Wheeler Shirt Dress of the past year or so.  It's a great, soft cotton and has a cute row of buttons up the back.  Unfortunately, I'm going to have to pass on it due to the long length (again) and the fact that I don't really dig sleeveless dresses in general.  I'm wearing a size 4 and it's a tad big, so ladies in between sizes may want to size down.  This would be great with a cardigan or a solid tee layered underneath!

Sumana Dress, Tanva Kedia, sz XS, $198

I actually really liked this dress.  Its a great pattern with lots of warm colors (and we all know how much I like pattern matching!) and I really like the kimono sleeves.  The silky material is super comfy and makes it easy for this to be a "throw on and look put together" dress  Length is at the knees, which is great!  I could see this with a belt, a long gold pendant necklace and some brown boots.  Watching to be on sale, 2nd cuts (/shakes fist at money goals).  This fits TTS-slightly large, so you can size down if need be.

Fitting Room Reviews: Dresses

Well it's the holiday week, so lets take a look at some possible holiday pieces at our favorite store, Anthropologie :).

 
   
  Dulcie Dress, Weston Wear, sz S, $158

This dress reminds me of something that a ballerina would wear.  Not that I think she would actually wear it, but its ballerina-inspired.  There are several layers of tulle at the skirt and a lace bodice.  On the hanger it looked pretty weird, but i have to admit -- I like it. I love how it isn't skanky but still has a definite party theme. This would be great with some shiny shoes or a glitter bolero.  Maybe both!    The dress fits TTS.  Wishlisted and a possible contender for a holiday party. 

Unconditional Osier Dress, Weston Wear, sz XS, $168

Weston Wear wins again!  I know this dress has been reviewed up and down the blogosphere, but I couldn't let it pass without my 2 cents.  This is another great party dress that could also be dressed down.  It comes with a spaghetti strap slip so that only the arms are see through and I love the shape it makes.  The skirt is just full enough and the fabric is comfortable to the touch.  This dress fits TTS.  The blue is divine.  I haven't tried to brown, but I'm sure its fantastic as well.  Wishlisted. 

Knitting Patterns Chemise, Lilka, sz XS, $148

Uh…150 bucks for a chemise Anthro?  Really?  Well, okay.  When I saw this on the rack, the vibrant colors sucked me in.  They reminded me of something in the middle east or India with its pattern and the way it dropped on the hanger.  Upon closer inspection, the material was silk with some nice weight to it.  Hmm.  Maybe this was an amazing dress hidden in the lounge section?  Alas, it wasn't meant to be.  It hung on me and belting it caused strange folds.  Combine that with the price and its a pass.  Maybe try a size down if you want to take a closer look at this one.

One Shot Review: Pointelle Variations Sweaterdress

So I've been spending all week at a conference with no camera but my phone :(. Sounds like a good opportunity to play with the blogger iPhone app!

This is a review for the Pointelle Variations Sweaterdress by Sparrow. It runs at $178 and I'm wearing a small.

Sweaterdresses look super cozy but are hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, this one is a miss. It was scratchy (can't STAND that) and the side view gives me a tummy pooch I don't appreciate. And geez, the price is too rich for me. On the positives, it's a good length and the weave pattern is pretty interesting. Give it a try on if youre interested. I sized up a touch, so consider that when picking a size. This will be a pass for me.

Fitting Room Reviews: Feels like Fall

Well, the best season (in my opinion) is here and the stores are really stocking up on cozy transitional pieces -- I'm super excited!  I've been trying on stuff left and right, so let's get started, shall we?

 

Forested Blazer, Madchen, sz S, $268

When I saw this blazer on the site, I fell head over heels in love with it.  I pretty much love anything green and this forest-y shade would just match everything.  The lavender and white accents are just such a great touch as well.  So of course, I made a beeline to my local store and as soon as it was made available, tried it on.  Well, it was pretty much the woolly, structured piece that I imagined.  Except.  Oh the sleeves.  Blazers, like jeans, are hard for me when it comes to the part that covers my appendages.  (No, not THAT kind).  The arms on this blazer were just too long and also squeezed my upper arms something fierce.  Sizing up just results in longer arms and, as its already on the longer side to begin with, it starts to overwhelm my frame.  So sad.  For you longer, leaner ladies, you can certainly wait for first cut, but this is a beautiful blazer if you're interested!  Fits TTS except for the arm issues I noted.

 

Dots Within Blouse, Sariah Carson, sz 4, $118

Lets continue with the green trend, shall we?  This silky number touches all my fashion buttons.  The polka dots, the silk, the tie neck!  Nice, long sleeves for colder times and it's just perfect for layering.  The fit is TTS and I will be stalking this hard core for sale time because its just so darn cute and I can see myself wearing it forever.

 

Brushed Lace Pullover, Eloise, sz S, $68

I normally don't like blush colored things, but i have to say, this top is pretty cute.  It feels soft and is a nice neutral color that would be perfect for layering.  I pretty much love everything at the 3/4 sleeve length -- even if a shirt or sweater is long sleeved, I tend to pull them up.  This fits pretty TTS if you want something form fitting but not too tight. The only downside is that I immediately knew the fibers weren't natural the minute I picked it up.  Sure enough, it's made of nylon.  Fortunately, the price reflects this, so if you're looking for a well fitting top that will work transitioning into fall, this is a great bet, even at full price.  Wishlisted possibly for sale time.

 

Felted Colorbar Cardigan, Charlie & Robin, sz XS, $88.50

It's weird.  The color blocked areas on this cardigan really look like felt, which brings me back to the days of grade school when I tried to make Barbie clothes out of those thick pieces.  So first thought was to dismiss this piece. Then, the mustard with the grey pulled me back  in enough to try it on.  It turns out, I really like it! The fit is form fitting but not tight and, if you know anything about me from reading this blog, it's that I LOVE the color mustard.  This combined with the dark grey really reminds me of fall and I think I can match it with so many things in my closet.  It fits pretty TTS, and is a pretty great price for Anthro, especially considering the 25% off sweater promotion they're currently having.  Definitely check it out if you're interested!

Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews

Well, this moving thing is working against all aspects of my blog.  I wore a blog worthy outfit both yesterday and the day before, but since I've been in between places, I found myself both times without a camera.  And today, well -- I'm in sweats.  I suppose I could put that up, but I can't remember half of the outfit details and you'd be bored to death, I'm sure.  So, I'll have to tide you over with some fitting room reviews.  Honestly, these have been sitting on my hard drive for a while, so they're a bit overdue...

Tupelo Dress, $168, Maple, sz 2

Colbalt blue and yellow are two of my favorite color combinations (and no, I didn't go to school in Michigan).  Combine those colors with the fall leaves, and I get some serious grabby hands going on.  I love the unique back on this dress and its made of nice, smooth, comfy silk -- always a plus.  The dress is a touch longer than I typically like, but I'll probably keep on an eye on this anyway for all its other fun qualities.  Then again, I have so many blue dresses….well we'll see.  Probably a 2nd cut item, first if it goes on sale when I'm weak ;). 

Acropora Pencil, $148, Plenty by Tracy Reese, sz 4

The colors on this cute pencil skirt just can't be beat!   I tend to love everything in the Plenty by Tracy Reese line that Anthro puts out and this skirt is no exception.  The cute little buttons on one side of the skirt gives it a little twist.  Length is good with this pencil skirt, though it does seem to run a bit small.  I could zip the size 4 up, but I was having a tad trouble breathing.  If you're interested in this, try a size up.  As with everything with this brand, the price tends to be a bit steep on this item, so I'll have to wait till sale time. 

Calligraphy Strokes Skirt, $118, Sariah Carson, sz 4

I've never heard of this brand before, but this little mustard number is the talk of the blogger community.  I can certainly see why -- this is a very fall hued skirt.  Still, while I like it, it's just not making my heart sing.  Not to mention it's made of rayon and polyester, which always disappoints me in a store like Anthro where I expect fit, quality and breathable fabrics.  Fit is TTS and the length hits just above the knee, which I do like. This will a pass for me -- I have last year's fennel flower skirt in a similar color palette and the pencil shape does more for me I think.  But if you pick this up, it will definitely give a pop to any outfit.

Dotted Dashes Tee, $48, Pilcro, sz XS

This is such a cute tee!  Pilcro takes stripes to the next level by creating them with two rows of dots per line.  This is a basic cotton shirt with some unique details -- I'm digging the ties at the sleeves and the boat neck.  This would be very cute with a blazer and jeans or even with a simple pair of shorts for any lingering hot days.  If you're looking for a basic striped shirt with some detailing, give this one a try.  Fit is TTS.

Fitting Room Reviews (Dresses): Wavering Grid, Take Action, Dynamic Zigs and Drafting

More fitting room reviews!  Let's take a look, shall we? 

 

Wavering Grid Dress, XS, Deletta, $148

The theme of this post should be – midi dresses are not for me.  This nice comfy jersey number by Deletta just overwhelms my petite frame.  The girl in the model shot must be 10 feet tall to get this dress to be so far over her knees!  In any case, I like the contrasting design on the waistline, and for ladies that this dress type flatters, I could see this being an easy pull on and go type of dress.  Go with your regular Deletta size on this one – typically that skews towards the smaller size because I’m in between S and XS.

 

Dynamic Zigs Dress, S, Plenty by Tracy Reese, $$89.95

This one went on sale before I could review it! This is another dress that’s skirt overwhelms me.  I like the criss cross pattern as well as the criss cross the top part of the dress makes across the chest. Fits TTS The color palette is fun and could be paired with many different cardigans and blazers.  It’s pullover styling, so this is another pull on and go dress.  This is a pass for me, but I could see someone with some height rocking this.

Take Action Dress, 2, Girls of Savoy, $168 (yellow color)

I’ve already reviewed this dress, and it looks like it’s been taken off the site (sold out!?), but here’s the review anyway.  Similar to the blue, the high collar and elastic waist along with the silky material makes this dress an amazing clothing workhorse.  The little squiggles are a nice departure from the polka dots and the length is wonderful.  You may consider sizing down as I was able to go all the way down to a 0 on its blue colorway cousin.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t really work for me in this color as it fades me out a bit.  Still, a fantastic option if you weren’t crazy about the blue colorway.

Drafting Shift, 4, Tabitha, $158

A cousin to the Pom Flower shift, this dress has the same burlap-y feel to it with a different design.  The fit is similar as well.  I gave the Pom Flower raving reviews for fit, length and the Drafting Shift is no different.  Fantastic length for a petite woman (right at the knee) and the material on the inside is not scratchy at all.  Fits TTS.  I just have so much blue/green in my wardrobe that this will be a pass for me.  If you weren’t digging the design on the Pom Flower Shift and this one floats your boat, I highly recommend it!
