Fitting Room Reviews: New Set!

Hi all!  It's been eternally long since I've done a set of fitting room reviews, but with the new May arrivals and a timely trip to Anthropologie, it's the right time.  Here's the first round.

Radler Blouse, $88, Girls from Savoy, 4

I always have a hard time with the blouses that cinch in and flare out past the waist, but I figured that I’d give this one a fair shot.  It definitely reminds me of summer with it’s white/yellow/green palette and would go super cute with a nice summery skirt.  Still, just not for me, so it’s a pass.  Ladies that would like to try this, this runs TTS to a little bit small.  I didn’t try the 6, but I felt a little squashed in the 4.

Counting Angles Dress, Plenty by Tracy Reese, $168, P

This is a dress I already reviewed a while back in the blue color way, but Anthro has this silly habit of releasing new colors pretty late in the game.  The blue pattern was actually a pass for me, but I’m really digging the red and neutral tones. This dress is two pieces – the wrap dress part and a slip of the same design and material underneath.  You could consider it 2 dresses for the price of one!  Nonetheless, the jersey is a little steep for full price, so I’d probably wait till first or second cut to pick this up. Fits TTS, but if you’re inbetween sizes, I’d recommend sizing down.

Glass Glow Shift, Fish Fry, $178.00, 4

Oh, the price on this dress.  I love the bold colors – they remind me of some sort of tropical locale.  The fit is nice a close and gives my less than curvy body some shape.  Super curvy types may have some trouble fitting into the shape of this dress.  The material seems a little flimsy to me, so I’m not sure it would be worth it to purchase at full price or even first cut.  Maybe on 2nd cut, but even that is pushing it because I feel like I could pick up something similar at Macy’s.  It’s a pass for me, but if you’re interested, it fits TTS.

Butterfly Net Dress, Nathalie Lete, $158, 2
Cobalt or royal blue are some of my favorite incarnations of the blue family.  This cute little sleeveless number totally caught my eye as I was wandering the store.  I like the close silhouette and the black sash is a nice touch.  I have a hard time with sleeveless dresses though – my arms are one of the areas I’m less than confident about.  Will stalk if it hits 2nd cuts.  Fits TTS to a little small.  Size down if you’re in between sizes.

Anadyomene Cardigan, $88, Rosie Niera, S

I really liked this cardigan when it hit the Anthropologie website, and I am completely in love with it now.  It’s absolutely the right length, the right shape for my body type – and I love the details in the neckline.  I actually get warm really easily, so a shorter sleeved cardi  If anyone knows the Bay Area, layers are key because it’s really warm in the middle of the day and significantly cooler in the morning and evenings. I’m also in the market to replace a cardigan I already have in this teal color, so it’s pretty timely.  I will definitely pick this up on sale, but I may not hold out till then.  Fits TTS.

Well, that's what I have for the fitting room reviews.  The last thing I'll leave you with is the outfit I wore today.  I couldn't make it home to my camera because I had to get to a soccer game, so I got some shots of my outfit in the Anthro bathroom (Awwwwkwaaaard...).

Remix: Olive Cardigan & Brown Knee High Boots

You ever have one of those days where you get home and decide you just hate your outfit?  Not that you thought there was anything wrong with it when you left the house or even as you went about your business.  You just got home, looked in the mirror, and thought - ew.  That was me today.

Though now you get to see two sets of pictures with some of the original outfit mixed in with another outfit!  This is what I wore during my work day.

Cardigan: J Crew Silk Camp Pocket Cardigan
Top: Anthropologie Red Delicious Blouse
Pants: AG Stevie Crops
Boots: Zigi Soho Mixer Boots

The shirt snaps shut, which is a nice departure from boring old buttons (though the snaps do get cold if it's cold outside).  The print is also of apples!  Mmm...delicious.
Of course, by the time I got home, I was tired of this whole "teacher look", and wanted something more hipster.  So...this is what I came up with.  I kept the cardi and the shoes:

Cardigan: J Crew Silk Camp Pocket Cardigan
Top: Anthropologie Climbing Cowlneck
Skirt: Forever 21 Painted Flowers Skirt
Leggings: Macys
Boots: Zigi Soho Mixer Boots
Belt: J Crew Factory

So much more hipster right?  I think so.  I wouldn't wear a skirt this short to work, but for dinner and hanging out, it's pretty great.
If you're in the Midwest, I'm hoping for your safety with all the tornadoes around!  Take care and see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: Wandering Gypsy

I'm sitting here with some Wingstop Wings, watching the Chicago Bulls game.  If you know anything about Chicago sports, you know that the fans are die hard.  I'm so looking forward to seeing them make it through the playoffs -- let's wrap round one tonight and go to round two!

I desperately wanted to stalk this skirt for sale when it came out in January of this year, but it flew off the shelves and online in less than 3 weeks!  So when I saw it on popback this past week, I had to snap it up.  I feel a little like a gypsy in this outfit.  All I need are some big hoop earrings and voluminous wavy hair, and I'd be there.

Haven't checked in on this in a while, but does anyone have any ideas for another Style Challenge?  Style Challenges are where someone (myself or other readers) asks how to wear certain styles.  I put together an outfit and provide some insight as to how to replicate it yourself!  Have an idea? Comment on the Style Challenge Tab!

Well back to the game and then off to work party.  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: Dancy Party

So I totally fell asleep early again yesterday.  I've been doing that a lot -- I suspect just because work's so busy and I'm trying to get back into my work out routine again.  I did, in fact, take pictures of my outfit today though.  And as I need to get my bottom to work:

Outfit Details
Cardigan: Anthropologie Swift Currents Cardigan
Top: Sweet Pea from Nordstrom
Pants: LOFT
Boots: Anthropologie Pebbled and Primped Boots
Scarf: Gift

My BF has taken it upon himself to try a new photography style -- take pictures really really fast while I'm moving!  Exclamation point! It makes for a lot more shots but, many of them are not exactly the most...flattering?  I was GOING to name this post 'Dance Party', as it looks like I'm dancing in these pictures.  My butterfingers liked 'Dancy Party' better.  I'm going to go with it.  It sounds more like a dance party a 4-year-old would have.  And who wouldn't want to go to one of those?

Off to work!  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: New Yawk

Did everyone have a good Easter holiday?  Ever since I moved to California, Easter's been pretty different.  In Chicago, there would be some sort of family party with food, video games, movies and general chatter.  Here, where I have no family, it's more of a normal day -- except you dress up to go to church.  I have no issue with this, especially because I rarely have an occasion to wear the dress below.  I loved it oh so much when it came out in Spring of 2010 and finally scored it on popback on the Anthropologie site.  That love hasn't waned yet!

Outfit Details
Cardigan: J Crew Camp Pocket Cardigan
Dress: Anthropologie New York New York Dress
Shoes: Target Pearce Pumps
Necklace: "t" Necklace from Therapy Boutique

As much as I love this dress, I always have the hardest time matching a cardigan with it.  I know -- there are so many colors to match with, how could I possibly have a problem? I guess I don't have that much in the way of pastel cardigans in my closet.  In any case, I like the olive for its slight unexpectedness.  Plus, nude shoes for the win!

Well, enough of my gushing.  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

Quick Post: Saucy Buddy

Sorry for the absence the last couple days folks!  Yesterday was pretty awesome -- the BF and I went to Sauce in San Francisco and then to the Buddy Guy concert that's part of the SF Jazz series the city holds every year.  It was pretty freaking fantastic.  I'm not a major blues fan, but those folks got some chops. It's actually been an extremely busy weekend, so I'm just going to leave you with some outfit pics and call it a post.

Outfit Details
Cardigan: BP 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan
Dress: Anthropologie Pigment and Canvas Dress
Shoes: Anthropologie
Necklace: Bought from Therapy Boutique

I keep meaning to hem this dress because I tend not to like drops that fall past my knees, but I actually really like this outfit.  Hope you all are having a wonderful Easter!  Hunt for an egg for me, kay?
Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: On the Prairie

I've started this post several times.  First, I wanted to tell you about the latest episode of The Office because Steve Carrell and Will Ferrell are hilarious.  Then,  I thought I would talk about the crazy stress dreams I've been having about being chased and zombie apocalypses.  But all I could get through is one sentence on both topics, so now I will skillfully massage both topics in to a blog post.  Haha :).

Outfit Details
Top: Anthropologie Shine Through Button Up
Skirt: American Eagle
Boots: Zigi Soho Mixer Boots
Belt: Anthropologie
Tights: Spanx

The BF and I went to a pretty awesome, inexpensive Korean place called Sunny Bowl.  We lived less than 5 miles away and never knew!  Thank you Yelp, I love you :).   Food experimentation really is the best.

Apologies if these posts are kind of short, but there's a lot going on.  Please bear with me for a bit.

Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: Swing It

One of my favorite things to wear is a short sleeve cardigan with a longer sleeve shirt underneath.  It means the transition of colder to warmer, or temperate weather is upon us.  This one is even more fun for it's long length and lightweightness.  And if I swing around, it's all flowy and stuff.  Besides, I haven't worn pants in a bit, so I have to keep you guessing!

Outfit Details
Cardigan: BCBG
Top: Anthropologie Curated Tee
Pants; Gap 1969 Always Skinny Jeans
Shoes: Target (Mossimo) Pearce Pumps (buy here)
Belt: Anthropologie Snake Bite Belt

I've spent over 9 months looking for the perfect shade of nude pumps to match my skin tone.  You know, I'm always looking for ways to make my vertically challenged self look taller, and flesh colored heels are one way to do it.  Well what do you know -- I found the perfect pair at Target!  It's just the best freaking store in the world!

It's been a long day, so it's time for a nap (then fire the missiles!).  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: Rain, Rain, Go Away

I know I shouldn't complain when it rains here, especially since it typically means that it's snowing in our eastern state counterparts.  But with the weekend being so beautiful this past weekend, it's like mother nature being all like "Summer's here! Oh wait -- Psyche!"  Bring on the sun!  I'm ready!

Color blocking is my "sun dance" of choice, and today is no exception.  The minute I saw this dress hit the Anthropologie website, it was on my "clothing to stalk" list.  When it sale, I snapped it up.  I knew it would go with everything in my closet, including this amazing set of green accessories I have!

Outfit Details
Dress: Anthropologie Lapis Lazuli Dress
Shoes: Seychelles Shimmy Peep Toe Pump
Belt: Anthropologie Looping Lanes Belt
Scarf: Gift from Italy (or France?)

With Easter coming up, I can't help but think of the things that I'm thankful for (not the wrong holiday, I swear -- hear me out :)).  Without getting too religious on you, there's more to Easter than eggs, bunnies, peeps and pastels.  This holiday reminds me of the sacrifices others have made to get me and my loved ones to where we are.  So, it's list time! Some things I'm thankful for in no particular order:
  1. The good heath of the ones I love and care about.
  2. Wonderful friends and the support system I have -- couldn't get by without you!
  3. Food, shelter, clothing and warmth
  4. Sunny days and the outdoors
  5. A steady job and income
  6. Education -- so much to learn, so little time!
  7. Creative expression and its many forms -- music, art, media, print, spoken word
  8. Adventures -- small and large
  9. Faith to give me strength when there seems to be no hope
Well the grill's on, and it's fah jai tah time! What are you thankful for? Have a wonderful week and I'll see ya tomorrow!

OOTD: You're in my shot!

It's been a weekend of a string of slightly bad things happening.  Nothing to call home about, but just a pile of annoying things that lead to being generally off kilter.  I had intended to spend a lot of the weekend working, but then I took my inopportune nap last night.  Coffee shops are my work area of choice, so after lunch, the BF and I went in search of a coffee shop to work/study in.  Well, we went to 3 and there were no tables whatsoever.  Once we found a place, the espresso machine was out of order.  The Internet was slow, so I couldn't do any work that involved a browser window.  I spilled my iced coffee on my nice white linen dress.  I dropped my iPhone.  And so on and so forth.

Ever have days like this?  The one bright spot was during today's photo shoot where we found giant roses and a kitty.

Outfit Details
Cardigan: Target Xhilaration Juniors Lace Cardigan
Dress: Bought in Italy 2003
Belt: Anthropologie Gift Bow Belt
Shoes: Anthropologie Ylang Ylang Sandals

Most of my shots today also captured either a father and his son or this kitty here.  He just wanders the neighborhood, so I think he belongs to someone in my apartment complex.  He's a cutie, isn't he?
Well let's hope for a better tomorrow.  Thanks for stopping by, see ya tomorrow!
